Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has beaten his teammate at all of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the title advantage from Piastri by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the points battle, lying 36 points behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, if briefly, when he lost control at the fourth corner during the early running.
The Japanese lost control over the exit kerbs before rotating through the run-off area, and was lucky to avoid just a minor contact of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the very end of the session, turning around through the high-speed corner leading to the final bend on to the pit straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs behind Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
