France has agreed to begin intercepting migrant vessels in the Channel, following an extended period of pressure from the UK.

The change in policy follows the Prime Minister wrote to the President urging him to back the initiative and stating there presently "have no effective deterrent" in the Channel.

French security forces will be allowed to stop the small boats at sea, but exclusively prior to they've collected their migrants, according to authoritative confirmation.

French authorities have infrequently intervened to prevent the overcrowded boats departing from the coastline because it is viewed as excessively high a danger to both officers and civilians.

"It is crucial that we deploy these tactics this month... We have zero effective deterrent in the Channel."

Now, a French naval police spokesperson says officers will begin intervening at sea, with the aim of safeguarding human life.

Significantly, the spokesperson excluded the use of nets to stop boats, which had previously been reported as a possible method to snarl the propellers of the boats.

This determination to intervene at all is a significant advancement, coming after a brief change towards a stricter approach this summer, which ceased when the previous government official departed from office.

This was demonstrated in the summer month, preceding a summit between the UK leader and President, when authorities were witnessed walking into the sea to damage the sides of a boat.

Now French authorities will once more be allowed to stop boats prior to they pick up migrant individuals from the beaches of France's north coast, although it's uncertain how the vessels will be prevented.
